OUR PURPOSE Happy Kids is a grassroots organization that advocates, educates and fundraises for the developmental progress of a small group of orphaned and vulnerable children in rural Wegbe, Ghana. OUR ROOTS Founded in 1995 by Elizabeth Gbone, native to rural Wegbe, to care for children who lacked access to education or proper care. Happy Kids steadily grew to support over 100 children, but Elizabeth struggled to care and feed for them without proper infrastructure or resources. OUR GROWTH In 2010, Kelsey Finnegan (then volunteer, now President U.S. Board) started to work with Elizabeth and the local Ghanaian team to develop the necessary infrastructure and programs for the children. Each initiative was paired with empowering and income generating projects along the way. Development progressed, children started to grow up and Happy Kids opened doors to more vulnerable children in need of education, care, and love. Simultaneously, support from U.S. advocates grew. A few of those long-standing U.S. advocates joined Kelsey and created the U.S. Board. Today, Happy Kids educates 180 children and cares for 60+ children full-time. Happy Kids employs 21 local Ghanaian Staff including teachers, a doctor, house mothers and chefs. The U.S. Board partners with Ghana Management and together, they focus on providing Happy Kids with well-rounded child development via: Education, Health Care, Income-Generating Skills, Empowerment, Creative Expression, Love, and Play.
